Fete 2008 - It was a GREAT FETE

Wow .. we did it !  It’s all over now, but just in case you missed it here’s a re-cap!

The kids didn’t know where to go first, Maybe the chair-o-plane which took off for rides every ten minutes fully booked, or the jumping castle where they could bounce off some of that excitement.  In the end they did it all, after all they had the power of the wristband!

They hunted for treasure in the treasure pit, those pirates worked hard this year.  The queue went out into the playground!  They tried smashing one of the jaffas from the 3 kilos of jaffas (we still ran out by 5pm!).  They smashed 24 boxes of old crockery, they took no prisoners even Snow-white didn’t survive.  They putted (read belted) golf balls, they fed the face (and half the playground) a footy, they tested their (un)steady hand, they dipped for prizes, they tried for medals, they aimed spiders at the web, they bought jars of lollies at the tombola, they ate fairy floss (and works of art) from the sugar shack and they got regularly sprayed with water by anyone with a water spray!  I’ll bet there were some really tired kids at home that night.

While they were occupied their parents had a lovely time.  They browsed bargain books, rustled through vintage clothing, foraged for treasures, bought second-hand toys (don’t you hate it when your kid picks up the thing you donated and buys it back!) perused the plants, had their bikes checked, cruised the craft stall, hunted for the perfect preserve, and started the major competition that was the silent auction.

And then there was the food and entertainment.  The fruit salad and sushi went down a treat, the salads were divine, the spit was spectacular, and the BBQ was sizzling.  The coffee machine was quieter than usual but the icy juices and teas went down a treat.  Whether it was soft-drink, water, or something strong they required, the bar was a favourite place for everyone.  The natural progression then was to sit down and enjoy the music, chat to friends, and relax.

I bet they didn’t even notice that the whole time they were enjoying themselves there were people doing dishes, clearing tables and generally making sure everything went smoothly.

Well Done Northcote Primary School!
